Tog's Spelunky: Failure #425

Alas, many times have I attempted to conquer the depths of this world. And many times have I failed. I have lost count the number of times I have been ripped from the caves to the world above upon reaching death's door.

Fortunately, I cannot truly die.

Unfortunately, I will not give in! I will not accept defeat!

This day was one of the most brutal in a long while. Many times, I foolishly ignored my instincts, rushing headlong into the unknown, only to be struck dead by a dart. The traps in these ancient caves are treacherous. There is no greater danger than going too fast!

The last straw for this day, however, was a single drop. A drop... onto a perilously pointy predicament. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE PIERCED BY FOUR SPIKES AS TALL AS YOU ALL AT ONCE?

It is not pleasant.

I had dropped the god's golden head to the floor below. The lost woman had managed to make it to a safe place. So I dropped! I landed safely, but from above a bat approached. Normally, I would have dispatched the fiend with a simple crack of the whip, but its angle of descent was too high. I could do nothing but try to run. Slowly, I crawled toward the edge above the spikes. If I could just creep over, and not land on the spikes, I might make it and destroy this fool. It was not meant to be! Too slow -- the bat attacked! My reflexes were too much! I jumped back too fast! Down, down I fell. I knew death approached.

All I could do was wait.

And so here I am again. Tomorrow is a new day! One day, I will discover that which lies at the bottom. One day, I will survive.
